Before we step forward in installing and configuring the VMware Site Recovery Manager we need to have a vSphere Environment in two Sites (HO Site) and (DR Site)
I already covered this part in two Blog Posts:
Install vCenter 5.5 in two Sites with Multiple SSO and Linked Mode (Part 1)
Install vCenter 5.5 in two Sites with Multiple SSO and Linked Mode (Part 2)
After Having both vCenter in both sites we will start our first step of SRM Installation by:
So,, Lets Start with first step, download the SRM Source to the SRM Machine and Double Click to start
Installation Started ,,
Click Next
Accept the License Agreement and click Next
Chose the Default or change it as you like, then click Next
Here we will Need to choose whether to:
(Install vSphere Replication)
Or
(Do not install vSphere Replication)
Since we have EMC SAN storage in both Sites (Replicated Using SRDF) we will use this option and we will build the SRM Solution based on this
Enter the vCenter information's (Name, Port, User Name and Password) for the vCenter on the same site you are installing to
Accept Installing the Certificate
Choose whether to Automatically Generate a Certificate or if you have already certificate you can use it
Enter a name for the Organization and the Organization Unit
Don’t Forget that we agreed that we will make the same steps in Both Sites, So
Local Site Name:
For HO name it HOVCNT******
For DR name it DRCVCNT******
This will be the name that will appear to you in the SRM Console for both sites when you finish Every thing
The Local Host will be the IP or the FQDN of the local SRM server
Here we will stop for a while to complete necessary step (Create the ODBC) to the SRM DB that we already created,
Note, this step could be done now or at the beginning but we cant step forward after the above step without this,
Open ODBC (64-bit)
Go to System DSN tab
Click Add
Chose SQL Server Native Client 11.00, you need to install SQL Server 2012 Native Client before this step
SQL Server 2012 Native Client
x86 Package http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=239647&clcid=0x409
x64 Package http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=239648&clcid=0x409
Give a name and Description for this Data Source
Choose the server containing your SRM DB
Click Next
As we agreed before, the SRM DB will be using SQL Server Authentication,
Put the Login ID and the Password for SRM DB (Has been set when you created the DB in the SQL Server)
Click Next
Change the Default Database to the SRM DB
Click Next
Click Test Data Source to confirm that you put the right information's and the connectivity to the SQL Server is healthy
TEST COMPLETE SUCCESSFULLY!
Great !! we can go now and complete our setups,
Click OK
Now we can Select the Data Source from the Drop Down Menu
The Username and password is the same Login ID and password (Has been set when you created the DB in the SQL Server)
Click Install
Click Finish
Now we can find the SRM in available Plug-ins from the vSphere Client
Note: that until now the SRM console is only available through the Windows vSphere Client and not available through the Web Client, Hopefully will be available in Version 6
Click Download and Install
Click Run
Click Next
Accept the License Agreement
Click Next
Click Install
Note that you are only installing the Plug-ins of the SRM over the vSphere Client not the SRM itself (We already installed the SRM)
Click Finish
Here we go, you can find the SRM Icon,
Go ahead, Click it
this is the first look,
Only one site appears here!!!
Why??
We need to do the same we did here on the other Site
From any site (HO or DRC) we will do the following Steps,
Right Click and Click Configure Connection
While we are configure the connection from the HO Site we will point to the remote vCenter (DRC vCenter)
Type the FQDN for the DRC vCenter and the Port Number and Click Next
Click Show Certificate
Install the Certificate
Now enter the User name and Password for the remote vCenter (DRC vCenter)
Click Finish
Here we go, your two SRM is now Connected.
Don’t think that we finished yet, we just getting started the real work
Don’t Wait go and check Part-2
(Part-2) SRM Configurations

Install vCenter 5.5 in two Sites with Multiple SSO and Linked Mode (Part 2)
After Having both vCenter in both sites we will start our first step of SRM Installation by:
- Deploying 2 Virtual machines (One on Each Site) to be used as the SRM Server
- Create a DB to be used for the SRM using the same SQL Server deployed with the vCenter or any SQL Located on Each Environment (More details about the DB requirements will discussed later)
So,, Lets Start with first step, download the SRM Source to the SRM Machine and Double Click to start
